What is a pedal assist electric bike?

A pedal assist electric bike (also known as PAS) provides motorized assistance when the rider pedals, making the ride feel more natural and effortless. Many Mokwheel models, such as the Asphalt, Basalt, and Obsidian, feature torque sensors that intelligently adjust power output for a smoother and more efficient ride.

What are the main differences between Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 electric bikes?

A Class 1 Ebike provides motor assistance only while pedaling, does not include a throttle, and has a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph. It is generally allowed on most bike lanes and shared-use paths.

A Class 2 Ebike supports both pedal assist and throttle operation, with a maximum speed of 20 mph, and is commonly permitted on public roads and bike lanes.

A Class 3 Ebike does not include a throttle and provides pedal assistance with a maximum speed of 28 mph, primarily for more efficient commuting. Once the motor-assisted speed exceeds 28 mph, it is no longer considered a legal Class 3 electric bike and is generally not permitted for road use, as it does not comply with relevant state and local regulations.
